THE WEE ONE GOT A GAME AT THE WEEKEND?

Does your wee one light up on Saturdays with excitement over the fact that it’s game day?

They get to stick their boots on, pull on their strip that makes them feel like one of their heroes they watch on the TV and they go play a game that they love with their pals.

WHAT GOES ON INSIDE THESE 4 WALLS?

Have you ever read one of our posts about Youth Train & Gain and thought, what do the weans do in those classes?

If you have then today is your lucky day.

Because you’re about to get a wee peak behind the curtain of a Youth Train & Gain class.

Each of our Youth athletes has their own individual plan that is designed to strengthen their weaknesses and develop the qualities that they need to excel at their chosen sport (and life in general).

Individual plans mean that the finer details vary but what’s that old saying again?

‘Methods are many, Concepts are few’.

Every one of youth athletes work on their total body strength with compound moves such as overhead press and squat.

We also have them doing a lot of jumping and landing because this is a highly effective way of improving coordination, athletic performance, joint strength, ligament & tendon strength, and making the wee ones less prone to injury.

Each plan has progressions in place so that every session presents a new challenge for each athlete which keeps them moving forward towards their goals.

That’s the technical stuff.

The other side of things is all about kids getting together, having fun, and introducing the youth of today to the gym based exercise in the most positive, welcoming, and fun atmosphere you will find.

Not too mention the world class tunes that nearly take the roof off during every session.

‘THE EARTH IS FLAT’

Imagine hitting out with that social hand grenade of a statement at a family dinner?

There would be uproar!

You can imagine your Auntie Janice giving it ‘Shut it ya dafty’ and your smart arse brother hitting out with ‘Well how do you explain the curved horizon then?’.

But what if you hit out with ‘KIDS SHOULDN’T LIFT WEIGHTS’?

You’d probably have a whole table in agreement.

Which is mental because those two statements contain the same amount of truth, ZERO.

Kids should absolutely be lifting weights if they enjoy it, if they play a sport, and if they want to set themselves up in the strongest possible position for their future.

Now, let’s define what ‘lifting weights’ means in the context of youth training.

Youth weight training should be tailored to the kids individual needs, focused on developing total body strength, core stability, coordination, and resiliency to injury.

It’s not about asking weans to do dangerous exercises or weans walking about with bulging muscles.

We want to say a massive well done to our very own Leah Donnelly, who’s football team won the South East Kim Little U13’s League this weekend!

Although Leah hasn’t been part of our Young Team for very long, we can see how passionate she is about playing football - and the effort she puts into her sessions really shows how much she wants to improve her game 💪🏼

Again, massive well done Leah, it’s well deserved ⚽️💯

PARENTS!

What about the youth of today eh?

Smartphones, computer games, flossing, youtube, and dabbing (not sure that’s still cool).

Not like back in your day when you old dear would chase you out the house at the crack of dawn and you wouldn’t even dare think about asking to play inside.

Back in your day when all you needed was a ball and some jumpers, or some chalk and skipping ropes.

Back in your day when you used to chace the icey down the street and pay for sweeties with bottles of limeade and Irn-Bru.

Kids are changing aren’t they?

That’s something that you can’t do a single thing about, we are in a tech obsessed world and kids are going to be influenced by that no matter what.

But kids are still kids.

They still run about daft, have wild imaginations, drive you up the wall, fill you with pride, make you laugh, make you greet, and are the motivation behind why you go to work in the morning.

They also still love getting involved in clubs and you have no doubt introduced your youngster to something that they cannot wait to get to every week.

It’s almost more of a requirement today because of the lack of outside playing time that kids have in comparison to previous generations.

That’s the same responsibility that inspired our Youth Train & Gain classes.

We knew it wouldn’t be easy to market thanks to a TON of misinformation about weight training being bad for young kids (which it total nonsense and no it doesn’t stunt their growth).

But we were determined to provide a safe, inclusive, and fun environment where kids could improve their strength and resiliency to injury as well as one where parents felt their kids were under the watchful eye of expert coaches who had their best interests at heart.

And that is why Youth Train&Gain was born.

With countless testimonials from parents and kids we know that we are providing a valuable service to the people of Glasgow.
